The School of Communication was established in 2009. It currently offers three undergraduate programs: Broadcasting and Television Directing, Film and Television Photography and Production, and Digital Media Technology. The school has 22 full-time and part-time faculty members, including 3 professors, 4 associate professors, and 17 faculty members holding master’s degrees.

Since its establishment, the school has actively organized both faculty and students to participate in various competitions. Many faculty members have achieved outstanding results in provincial-level teaching competitions, including the Jilin Provincial Excellent Course in Public Arts for Higher Education Institutions, Film Appreciation, which won First Prize. Faculty members have also received 12 awards in the Jilin Province Micro-Lecture Teaching Competition for Applied Education. In recent years, students mentored by the school have achieved remarkable results in national and provincial competitions. In the National College Student Advertising Art Competition, students won one Third Prize and six Merit Awards; in the Jilin Province Division, students won five First Prizes, twelve Second Prizes, twenty-six Third Prizes, and forty Merit Awards. In the First Jilin Province College Student Themed Short Video Competition, students won three First Prizes, seven Second Prizes, fourteen Third Prizes, and twenty-five Merit Awards. In the Times Young Creative Awards, students received 66 National-Level Merit Awards, and the student video Glorious Footsteps, Beautiful Life won Second Prize in the National College Student Photography Competition.

The School of Communication is equipped with laboratories including broadcast and television systems, photography studios, HD fiber-optic nonlinear editing labs, digital audio labs, broadcasting studios, and computer graphics (CG) labs, providing excellent teaching and internship environments. The school has established internship agreements with multiple integrated media centers, cultural communication companies, and animation production companies across the province and beyond. These agreements provide students with off-campus professional practice platforms, enhance practical skills, and organize participation in real-world industry projects, helping students develop employment adaptability and shorten their career adjustment period.

Radio and Television Program Directing

Program Objectives: The Radio and Television Program Directing program aims to cultivate high-quality, interdisciplinary talents who possess professional theoretical knowledge and skills in program directing, planning, creation, and film and television production, while demonstrating sound moral character, broad humanistic knowledge, and aesthetic literacy. Students are expected to possess strong moral integrity, humanistic literacy, and aesthetic sensibility. They will develop film and television creative thinking, cross-media awareness, and professional ethics, enabling them to work as directors, producers, writers, program planners, photographers, or reporters in broadcasting, media organizations, film and television companies, new media enterprises, and other institutions.

Program Features:

1. Interdisciplinary Integration

Combining knowledge from film and television arts, journalism, and communication studies, the program forms a unique interdisciplinary education system that fosters students’ comprehensive media literacy.

2. Practice-Oriented Learning

Through participation in television and radio production, directing work, and professional competitions, students enhance their practical skills and innovation ability.

3. Modular Curriculum

Based on students’ interests and career goals, the program provides modular courses in film and television production, new media communication, and advertising planning, encouraging individualized development.

4. Cutting-Edge Technology

The curriculum is regularly updated to include emerging fields such as film and television visual effects and short video creation, ensuring students are proficient in the latest technologies and industry trends.

Main Courses: Introduction to Broadcasting and Television, Introduction to Communication, Television Art, Audiovisual Language, Fundamentals of Photography, Fundamentals of Videography, Nonlinear Editing, Recording and Editing Techniques, Television Program Production Techniques and Aesthetics, Documentary Creation, Fundamentals of Television Directing, Art Film Production.

Career Prospects: Graduates can work in broadcasting, media organizations, film and television companies, new media enterprises, and other institutions, engaging as directors, producers, writers, program planners, photographers, or reporters.

Duration and Degree: 4 years; awarded the Bachelor of Arts degree.

 

Film and Television Photography and Production

Program Objectives: This program cultivates highly skilled applied professionals with a solid foundation, strong practical ability, and professional competence. Students will acquire solid theoretical knowledge in film and television, essential skills in cinematography and post-production editing, and professional ethics. Graduates are capable of engaging in film and television directing, packaging design, visual effects production, and advertising animation design.

Program Features:

1. The program aligns with media industry trends and adopts a “dual-platform, triple-integration” talent cultivation model:

Dual-platform: integration of professional education and industry-based teaching platforms to ensure students acquire theoretical knowledge while participating in practical projects. Triple-integration: integration of disciplines, projects, and practice to enhance interdisciplinary and project-based learning capabilities.

2. The program emphasizes integration of theory and practice to promote students’ artistic creativity and expression.

Through training in film photography, audio recording, and post-production editing, students gain the ability to create and produce high-quality film and television works. The curriculum covers all stages of film projects, including concept, packaging, and operation, enabling students to understand industry workflow, enhance market analysis, and strengthen content planning abilities.

Career Prospects: Graduates can work in film and television production companies, television stations, advertising companies, and new media platforms, engaging in directing, packaging design, visual effects, animation design, project planning and operation, or start their own business in related creative fields.
